I chose to design mine based on the idea of an old postcard of the Hawaiian volcanoes. To create this worn and aged feel I made sure to include distressed strokes around the center and edges to give off the illusions of fold marks. There is also a brown overlay around the edges to simulate water damage. Using pre-determined Illustrator patterns and symbols along side some flat-design work, I created a design that communicates successfully.
